Larnaca has an extremely varied and interesting shopping centre. For the size of town the shopping facilities are vast. You can find practically anything you may want from shops specializing in nuts and sweetmeats to designer clothes. Nearly all of the shopkeepers speak good English and many speak enough Swedish or German to communicate. The new generation of shop girls however seem to have a new fashion in as much as they won't speak any English. The only drawback to shopping in Larnaca is that you can spend a whole day wandering around and not even notice time passing.Sales are usually held in August when 50% to 80% discounts are not unusual.
September 1st to June 30th are winter opening hours which run fromOpen 09.00 until 13.00 and 15.00 until 19.00
The official times are
09:00 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 20:30
but many shops do as above instead
and close on Wednesday and Saturday afternoonsSummer opening hours run from
Open 09.00 until 13.00 and 16.00 until 20.00
but the reality is often
15.00 until 19.00 in the afternoon and from 08.00 in the morning.
Confused ?There are now a number of shopping centers, namely the town centre which runs around Ermou St, Phaneromeni - which is basically the road running from Phaneromeni Church to the saltlake petrol station, Droshia, here you will find the thrift shop, and the new road, which used to be the ring road from the fire station to the port roundabout, where you will find the bigger stores such as Marks 'n Spensives, Chris cash and carry etc.
A new second hand/Antique/ everything shop has been opened recently (May 2008) by an English woman expatriate who knows what she's doing in the trade. It is a participation shop, i.e. if you have something to sell, take it along and she will sell it for you for a small percentage. If you have just bought a house and are looking for furniture or things to fill it with, take a look, everything from beds to bathroom furniture, bikes, books, bric a brac and bargains, that's just the b's.
It is called 'Para Ti,' (for you) and is easy enough to find if you are used to Cypriot directions.
At the New Larnaca Hospital traffic lights, on the main road in or out of town, from or to Nicosia, go towards and then past the hospital (on your left) continue along that road until it narrows down (the new stadium is on your right) go on into the built up area and after about 200m you will see a biggish water vending machine on the right hand side of the road, just after that turn left.
