If you are in Limassol and looking for something special,
something live and alive then look no further you have found it. You can have a
really good evening out almost anywhere along the long strip of seafront in Limassol
or Lemessos as it is now spelt. Following the construction of what was
once the by pass, but which is fast evolving into the main road in the
centre of Limassol, a lot f the traffic which once paraded along the ea
front in a vain effort to get to Paphos has now transferred to this by pass,
freeing up the sea front road for the tourists and local traffic, it is a
much better place for it. The conurbation of Limassol now takes in many once
surrounding villages, starting almost at Zygi and Vassiliko where the cement
works are and moving along to the once sparsely populated area near the Le
Meriden Hotel and on to the Marina which started out as the Sheraton's but
is now known as San Raphael. It is not as much of a live aboard marina as
the one in Larnaca, but has good facilities for hauling out and has a
pleasant cafeteria and restaurant where you can enjoy a bit of a marina
atmosphere.
It is a very long town, not yet too fat but that makes it easier to
traverse on foot as it is not hilly by the beach and the promenade is very
very long.. There are nightclubs, bars, restaurants, taverna's and shops
along the strip You will find something to suit your taste from the
sophisticated to the downright sleazy, the nightlife is late and at the
weekends especially it is very busy, even in the winter life in Limassol is
pretty steamy. It is a cosmopolitan city with a large contingent of Russians
and Eastern Europeans, who seem to have adopted it as a home from home, it
is also a business capital, vying with Nicosia as a centre of commerce
especially on the shipping side of things
